We all have people we look to for inspiration, whether it be physically, lifestyle, morals etc we have different role models for different reasons. One of my long time girl crushes has been on model and “it girl” Daria Werbowy.
With a Canadian and Ukrainian background, even at 33 she has a flawless and striking appearance. But I think what I love most about her is that it seems like she tries to live the most normal, active life she can (well as much as you can for a super model!). Her social media is quite private, posting mostly modeling shots or artistic images. And she is aware of her power as a model. In the September 2008 issue of Fashion Magazine she was quoted saying: “I’ve had a lot of mixed feelings about what I do… A lot of the time, I feel like I’m part of the problem when it comes to all the superficiality and vanity that impacts the way girls grow up”. Whilst I understand what she is getting at I think that she is more of an inspiration than a threat. I think these days reality stars are a bigger threat after all their lives are far from “real”.
And maybe it is also that the French also love her. (I am a big fan of French fashion!) She has walked the catwalk for nearly every fashion brand in her career and been the face of many of my favourite French brands such as Hermés, Celine, Isabel Marant, Loewe and Dior to name a few. And whilst I will never have her tom boy figure or flawless skin she is someone I look to for style inspiration.
Who is someone you look to for style inspiration? And next time you look at a girl in a magazine or online and think “why can’t I look like that?” (start by remembering these people are PAID to look that good and have usually been majorly photoshoped/airbrushed whether they like it or not!) and take a different approach. Why not admire them for putting themselves out there and look at what good you can take from it. (e.g. outfit or make up inspiration) And remember you are seeing only a very small slice of what it took to put this picture together. Because beating yourself up for not looking like them will never get you the results you want. My favourite models are ones that have personality (stay out of the spotlight as much as they can, are a bit quirky or just seem happy), you can see a sparkle in their eye that shows there is more to them than their looks and you can have that too no matter what you look like!
