As the year draws to an end, we all reflect on the year and start planning our goals, dreams and lives in general ready for the new year. One of my “new years resolutions” this year was to make as many gifts as I could. I really wanted to challenge myself as I haven’t been making as much as I used to and have a huge craft/sewing collection and I just think personalized or handmade gifts are just that little bit nicer.
It was quite a challenge for some people and just timing sometimes was hard and whilst I didn’t make every element of all gifts I tried to incorporate at least 1 handmade item. I think overall they were really well received so I am going to continue this challenge for 2017. Below are some photos of a few of the gifts I have made with their happy recipients.
Kids are the best to make for as there is endless ideas. I made my youngest niece who likes to craft a kit to make her own jeweled crown (completed in the photo). And my oldest niece I made a mermaid doll. And for some friends of Adrien’s in France I made some softies, twins for twins and another for another friend. (not pictured).
And for some of the adults, I made my dad a 25 day mindful and gratitude journal for running and my sister in law a wall hanging and tie dyed napkins. My brother got a new knife and I made a little cover (sharpest knife ever!) and I tried to do a lot of making for Christmas including some flavoured salts and more tie dye. Unfortunately I haven’t photographed everything so this is just a snapshot of the year!
So I challenge you, as you are making all your resolutions to stop doing everything or lose 5kg, stop drinking so much etc etc, challenge yourself to take something up: read all those magazines/books you bought that you haven’t read, call someone new that you usually don’t once a month, meditate everyday, learn a new skill (craft, sports, hobby), the list is endless and the start of a new year is the perfect time to begin! I wish you a happy new year that is full of good health, love and enjoyment. X
